Gambit, meanwhile, is enjoying a night in with Cecelia Reyes at his apartment, offering her a room for as long as she wants. They are interrupted when Wolverine calls round with Northstar and Warbird, who is carrying someone’s severed head. She collapses a moment before the team is attacked by a group of mercenaries. Cecelia erects a forcefield to save them whilst Iceman, already outside, freezes their chopper in mid-air. However, he is attacked by green dragons commanded by Chimera, who has turned up with a bunch of Marauders. Nearby, Kyle is on his way to find Northstar when he sees the explosion at Remy’s. Fun Facts: This is Susan Hatchi’s first appearance.
Comic Summary: Sometime soon, Northstar is making his way through some sewage tunnels when he comes across Karma. She is badly injured, having been speared by a harpoon. She tells him that someone is waiting for him down the tunnels and then apologizes before falling unconscious. Northstar looks up to see his boyfriend, Kyle, aiming a pistol at him. He asks Northstar if he wants to race, before raising the pistol to his temple. Northstar cries out his name as the gun goes off. In the present, Chimera and the Marauders attack the X-Men, who have Cecelia Reyes by their side. She tries to aid an innocent bystander but is attacked by the mercenaries who are in collusion with the Marauders. When one fires at her, the bullet ricochets off her forcefield and kills him, leaving his colleagues who decide to run for it. The Marauders fight well against the X-Men but, when Karma manages to mentally zap Chimera out of her mind-control, the tide turns and the Vanisher teleports the Marauders, minus Chimera, away from the scene. Karma then tries to determine who has placed the Marauders under their command but, when she enters Chimera’s mind, the only things she finds are some disgusting mental guards in place. The only clue they have now to who is behind this attack is a GPS tracker discovered by Gambit. With the fighting over, Northstar and Kyle discuss their relationship, the upshot being that, despite the differences in their lives, they love each other and wish to be together. Unseen by them, they are being watched by Susan Hatchi’s assistant. She has further plans for the loving couple and the X-Men. Later that night, Karma goes to bed but wakes up when she senses something amiss. She walks into her lounge and finds Susan Hatchi, the person behind the Marauder’s attack, sitting there. She tells Karma that she did quite well breaking her hold over Chimera, so she’s curious to see how she’ll handle the X-Men. (Brief summary thanks to uncannyxmen.net)

Northstar later meets up with Kyle and, without thinking it through properly, gets down on one knee to propose. Northstar later takes to the sky in order to think clearly and he soon realizes that Kyle is right. Meanwhile, Wolverine joins the others and heads to Red Hook - one of the holdings that Natasha told him about. There they are attacked by Blockbuster, who is killed by Warbird, and then they discover a pile of Marauders inside, all dead. Unfortunately, they are then taken into Karma’s mental thrall. Comic Summary: As Iceman shifts his body into a massive ice giant, the X-Men do what they can to talk him down, and save civilians that are in his way. Gambit kinetically-charges Iceman’s ankle, causing him to fall over, enabling Kitty to phase into his body, where she unsuccessfully attempts to purge the Apocalypse death seed from Iceman. However, the heroes do buy some time as Iceman all but melts. Wolverine and Gambit visit the imprisoned Dark Beast, who explains how he put the death seed into Iceman during their recent inter-dimensional adventure. He doesn’t tell them whether it can be removed. As the world goes into an ice-age, people are trying to cope with their new reality, while Iceman goes to visit his bigoted father. They argue for a time, while Iceman’s mother tries to calm them down - only Iceman freezes his father’s heart, giving him a heart-attack, he then leaves on an ice-slide. Mystique visits Iceman in the cave where he is keeping Polaris and Annie Ghazikhanian prisoner. They talk about survival, and the real Bobby Drake - this is only one of his clones, who explains that Iceman loved Mystique once, but that soon he will never be capable of loving anyone again. The real Iceman appears, and places Mystique in an ice-bubble, before rising up on an ice-tower, far into the atmosphere. They look down at the Earth below as they discuss power. The X-Men, Opal and her son take refuge in one of the churches, and discuss how Iceman has changed, and their need to remove the death seed from him. Suddenly, Thor arrives, demanding to see Iceman. Taking the form of a dragon, Iceman attacks Thor and seemingly swallows him. The X-Men leave the church and are confronted by Mystique and dozens of Iceman clones. Wolverine is taken out of the equation quickly, while Thor breaks free of the Iceman-dragon - but starts to get overwhelmed again, although he does manage to summon a lightning bolt. Iceman finds Opal, who tells him that if he doesn’t stop this, he will kill her son, and he is all she has. Iceman reminds Opal of how she previously lied to him about the boy, and starts to surround her in ice, while demanding to know whether he is good enough for Opal now. However, Thor escapes his hold, and casts his lightning bolt through Iceman, before shattering his form with his hammer. Opal collapses, but as Thor walks over to Iceman’s remains, Mystique shoves an ice-spear through him, walks over and picks up the death seed - and swallows it! Comic Summary: Gambit, Karma and Warbird content with the Iceman clones, while Wolverine is imprisoned in a block of ice, and Mystique has just swallowed the death seed. She attacks the X-Men, while Gambit tries to talk her down. Mystique doesn’t listen, and boasts that she is Apocalypse - until Thor strikes her with a blast of lightning. She collapses before him, enabling Kitty Pryde to phase up through the snow and reach into Mystique’s body, where she literally pulls the death seed out of her. She is then sucked into the snow, and the X-Men assume Iceman has taken her. The ice starts to sweep up over them, and soon Gambit, Warbird and Karma vanish as well, leaving Opal Tanaka in shock. They re-appear miles away, though Warbird is in danger, as she is cold-blooded and needs heat to survive. With nothing but ice around them for miles, they need help. Iceman visits his therapist - only his therapist is just a clone. Iceman then confronts Opal and her son, Robert. Mystique re-appears on the Great Wall of China, and Iceman, or a clone, tells her that she betrayed him, while Mystique recommends to him that he hold onto his dark side. At the Drake residence, an Iceman clone keeps watch over his ailing father. One of the Iceman clones confronts Gambit, Karma and Warbird, who, despite her injuries, warns him that she will fight him. Kitty Pryde appears, and announces that she will fight, too. She tells him that if he thinks he is the only one who has had a bad lifer, then he should look around, as they all have, but that they are all survivors. Iceman doesn’t know who to believe - Kitty? Opal? Mystique? The dragon-like form of Iceman attacks Kitty, Karma, Gambit and Warbird, so one of the clones increases his own mass to battle the evil Iceman, and in the aftermath, only Bobby Drake remains. The ice melts across the world. Cecilia Reyes checks Polaris and Annie Ghazikhanian out for injuries, and William Drake is taken to a hospital, while Mystique is left in China. Kitty says goodbye to Opal and her son. Opal wishes she could help her with Bobby, who watches her go. Wolverine tells Iceman that he owed all of the women an explanation, and they discuss Bobby’s future with the X-Men. Kitty joins the discussion, as Wolverine warns Bobby that he will be keeping an eye on him. Bobby tells Kitty that he doesn’t know who he is anymore, and reveals that he liked being a monster, as he was free. (Brief summary thanks to uncannyxmen.net)
