Jean, Nightcrawler and Rogue stay behind to help, while another team led by Cyclops searches the Morlock tunnels. ‘Ro is ordered to stay behind. The X-Men find the Morlocks. However, when the X-Men are diverted by ‘Ro who tagged along, Masque uses that opportunity and horribly changes Cyclops and Gambit. In the meantime, Trask’s SHIELD agents have become aware of mutant activity in the Morlock tunnels and are getting ready to attack. Back at the mansion, Fury’s agents have no luck questioning Mystique. To make matters worse, she hints that she and Fury were old friends during World War II. Luckily, the two men manage to throw off Masque’s control and join the two girls against the Morlocks. Finally, Sabretooth explains to Daisy how a clone of his helped the Marauders slaughter Morlocks and now Masque believes it was him. Daisy manages to interrupts the fight and she and Mora insert some reason into the discussion. If the Morlocks want help with Burnout, they have to play by the rules. Still, fighting almost breaks out again when Daisy tells Masque to help Sabretooth with his lost hand and the Morlock refuses. The argument is cut short when SHIELD agents discover them and shoot tranqs at Masque. The other Morlocks tell the X-Men to leave. They will handle this. Actually, they are handled and captured by the SHIELD agents, but in turn they are soon freed by another group of Morlocks led by Callisto who is in league with a mysterious person called the Ghost Panther. Back at the Mansion, Jean tries to telepathically question Mystique, but Mystique instead turns the tables on her, taunting her with the faces of dead and lost loved ones. Without the others noticing, Jean threatens her as Phoenix, then notices she is losing control and runs away. Nightcrawler is next, however he refuses to absorb his mother’s memories, preferring faith. Rogue angrily berates him for that and demands answers until Mystique finally admits she lost everyone she loved and doesn’t want to make the same mistakes with her children. When the other group returns from the Morlock tunnels, Moira wants to examine Mystique as she has immunity to Burnout. Mystique first tries to haggle, then agrees in order to not disappoint Kurt and Rogue. Gambit then proceeds to save Robyn and Nate who are threatened by Scalphunter. Corsair finally uses the Starjmmer to kill all Marauders on the battlefield while Jean protects the X-Men telekinetically. She senses the Marauders being “switched off” before they are killed, meaning a new batch of clones will return eventually. Robyn manages to ingratiate herself with Nate and the X-Men, much to Sinister’s pleasure. While the X-Men are called back to Westchester, some of them remain behind with Kitty, who needs to recover. Figuring he is after Mariko Yashida, she decides to go there without telling the others. She has no idea that ‘Ro is a stowaway on the Skimmer, until they have arrived. Aboard the train, “Wolverine” attacks again but the girls manage to get rid of him. Upon arrival in Tokyo, they are arrested. Mariko Yashida comes to get them out, not as good a thing, as it turns out she is the secret leader of the Consortium and wants revenge on Jean Grey and her friends for Wolverine’s betrayal of her. Worse, Sigrid Trask and SHIELD forces are her back-up. At that moment, Jean and Gambit join the girls and a fight breaks out. When young Ororo, along with several New Mutants, had been kidnapped by the Genoshans, Storm was to undergo the Mutate transmode process on Cameron Hoge’s order. However, while Hodge was busy with other X-Men prisoners, the Genegineer told Storm of his plans to fake the process and replace her with a specially-grown clone that would be able to return their powers to her captured friends. Ororo went along the plan and was stored as energy in Pipeline’s transfax console. Unfortunately, both Pipeline and the Genegineer died in the conflict, while the cloned Storm replaced her with the X-Men. Eventually, the transfax console landed in the hands of the Consortium. When its scientists examined the device, a chain reaction started, creating young ‘Ro and the energy Storm. A solution for energy Storm and her unstable powers came from Iron Man, who gave her an armor to contain her powers, as well as the Ghost Panther identity. In the meantime, clone Storm went bad, due to her partial ability to store and return powers making her vulnerable to the Shadow King’s corruption. In the present, said Clone – now Queen Storm of Wakanda – decides to call the Avengers to help against the X-Men.
