He manages to get away and continues through the jungle towards his goal. All the while he remembers being left in the Antarctica. He remembers freezing and starving, but then being saved at the last moment. When he woke in his rescuers lab he is told his name is New Son and that he needed Gambit to retrieve an object for him from Saveage Land as repayment for saving him. He finally finds what he was looking for in the middle of the Savage Land, a large factory-like building. He breaks in through the sewer system and manages to slip through the gaurds. He finds that the object he is suppose to collect is a captured woman. He sets her free but the gaurds hear and attack. In the midst of the attack, Gambit is hit with a sudden fever and faints. During his unconciousness he makes contact with the being inside him that follow him out of Antarctica. She threatens him then returns inside him. He wakes up inside a cell with the woman he was suppose to rescue. The woman introduces herself as Courier. They escape the cell and go to retrieve the information the Courier was there to retrieve before leaving. - Trade Availability: None. - Fun Facts: This issue was only available through mail order from Wizard Magazine only. It came with a Certificate of Authenticity. This issue features the first time we see interaction between Gambit and The Courier.

He jumps off, but his parachute catches fire and Remy crash-lands. Much debris falls towards him. Remy and Storm fly to Scotland commercial, and reminisce about their thieving days, when Storm was regressed to a child’s body. She admits that she framed the Thieves' Guild for the Safilios job, and he in turn hired the Assassins' Guild, starting a clan war. She and he have each made mistakes in life. At Muir Island, Moira examines Remy's new power to delay his charges; Remy jokingly credits the green energy succubus inside him. The X-Cutioner hires the former Elysian Guard to help him nail Remy: they had been fired after failing to stop Remy. Fontanelle investigates Tante Mattie's dreams; in 1891 she was a child voodoo practitioner, unable to heal a powerful man, and Remy (somehow there as an adult) saved her from a vengeful mob. The electricity goes off in Muir Island; Moira has rigged the system to blast into space and explode in such a case, to protect it from Bastion or any other attempted download. Remy goes to retrieve the data. He rides the data core up; parachutes down when it blows; and is able to save and copy the hard drive. Remy avoids the debris and returns to Moira’s lab and hands her the rescued hard drive. She thanks him, but he doesn’t feel heroic, as he copied the data, which he was hired to steal for the New Son. Courier addresses the Crew A.S.K.E.W., a for-profit research group. One of them, the Pelican, interrupts; he has acquired a will-sapping gas, which he wants mass-produced. The canister cracks; turns out the gas has the side effect of melting your face off. The gas is sucked back into the canister; the Mengo brothers enter; they now control everyone (they are working for the Pig), except Courier; he can control every cell in his body and can’t be affected by the gas. Remy blows his way in and leaves with Courier and the canister. Fontanelle investigates Sekmeht’s dreams: digging up relics of En Sabah Nur in Egypt, confronting Ozymandias, being rescued from a fall by Remy. Fontanelle says Sekmeht mixes her need for parental approval (archeology) and her repressed desires (Remy) in her dreams. The Mengo brothers trace the canister; Remy rides to "Onslaught Alley" on the east side, where the air is still energized, to throw them off. They catch up and start shooting; Remy redirects missiles and collapses two buildings onto each other, but lets the canister drop. The homeless Huey and Quiet Bill are present during the fight. Bill, probably a mutant, has a portal of green energy around him, in which images of other realities appear, but he can’t control this. Suddenly a large portal forms and envelops the Mengo’s ship full of A.S.K.E.W. scientists. The Mengos pick up the canister and escape; Remy invites Bill to Xavier’s, but he declines. Blade interrupts, but the vampire gets away. Tante Mattie summons Remy home, to a cabin outside the city. She says Fontanelle and the Antiquary are after him; his father Jean-Luc arrives with the boy Jerome, who was attacked last night. Tome and Hoard, ministers of the Antiquary, inform Bella Donna that her dead Assassin is actually undead and is killing their clan; Remy arranges to overhear. Fontanelle investigates Ryking's dreams; he was a boyhood friend of Prof. Xavier in Alamogordo, and he saw an old woman there who said "black womb." Denti has been preparing his new team, the former Elysian Guard, to catch Remy, and he plans to use Rogue as bait. Remy searches the graveyards all day for Chicault; at dusk Blade attacks him, assuming him to be a vampire because he has red eyes. After the misunderstanding is cleared up, they talk and ally to go to the Antiquary's museum. He is missing; Tome and Hoard are curators now. Clan LeBeau offers to stop Chicault if they get access to the library. Duiring the original attack Chicault bit Jerome on the wrist, apparently enough to have some mental hold over the boy. At night he instructs him to bite the rest of the Antiquary's slave children. They open the door for him; he enters the library, planning to spend his eternity doing historical research. Blade, Remy, and Jean-Luc attack. Blade decapitates the vampire, and the children revert back to normal and are freed. Tome and Hoard grab Chicault's notebook without anyone else noticing it. The Pig stops torturing the Mengos for their failures and sends them after a boy named Shirow, who is the source of the mind-controlling gas (last issue) and has escaped with Zoe, who drives with him towards New Orleans. - Trade Availability: None. - Fun Facts: This issue features the first time we see interaction between Gambit and Blade, Minister Horde and Francois Chicault.

But both halves of him agree to hate Remy. As planned, he has Maria Ellenthorpe ambush Rogue with one of his gizmos, to use her as bait. Realizing Rogue is missing, Xavier lectures Remy on total truthfulness within the team, saying he should have informed them about his earlier fight with Denti. The X-Cutioner sends a message, and at his coordinates, the X-Men find a stargate. Apparently a trap, they decide to use it anyway, but it only takes Remy. Fontanelle decides to look at the dreams of the New Son, who hired her to investigate Remy. Strange images: some recognizeable as Rogue and Magneto at the end of the AOA and the Dark Beast. The New Son discovers her presence and kicks her out of his mind. Remy, exhausted, emerges from the stargate. The green energy entity within him breaks loose; they argue briefly, but then she returns to his body. Remy bests the Firing Squad and gets past Denti but is knocked out by his last gizmo. But before Denti can deliver the killing blow, Rogue breaks free, and Remy shoots Denti with his own staff and leaves with Rogue, meeting the X-Men at the other side of the stargate. Denti, his face mask damaged, shoots at the Firing Squad, mistaking them for Rogue and Remy. He realizes his error, too late. Just like his father, an army man who lost control and shot his own men. As X-Cutioner, he should execute himself. Zoe takes her brother Shirow to the New Orleans Thieves’ Guild for sanctuary. When he was 15 years old, Remy tried to help his cousin through the guide tilling, but they were captured while stealing from Candra. The boys then were sold to the Pig and only escaped because of Gambit’s newly manifested mutant ability. The boys jumped into the ocean, but Etienne drowned. Fontanelle is shown entering the dreams of a woman whose sister died years ago. Fontanelle visits Gambit dreams, where she finds strange images of things to come, she also explains that besides being paid, she also has a personal intrest in her quest. The New Son has Gambit transported to his palace, and warns about Apocalypse’s machinations. The upcoming confrontation between him and the X-Men would be a historic key event. Back in reality, Remy visits Claire De Luc in Arizona and through her gets in contact with Scalphunter of the Marauders. Gambit needs him to find one of Sinister‘s bases, but Sinister has cloned a failsafe into his Marauders that kills them if they turn against him. The only one who could help would be Sabretooth, who is still the original and not a clone. They fly to Tasmania and infiltrate Sinister's base, through a portal under a rock in a river in a gorge. Remy sees it’s like the one in Nebraska, and Creed explains it’s the same base, with entrances around the world. The Marauders attack; Scalphunter shoots Courier and Creed; Remy harpoons Harpoon and blows up Riptide and Scalphunter. He considers destroying the clone vats, both defeating and freeing them, but Sinister interrupts. Courier, shot through the head, is still alive. Fontanelle investigates the Tithe Collector's dreams and sees Remy a century ago in London, when Candra made a pact with the Thieves' Guild. Remy holds up the vial Sinister gave him in exchange for assembling the Marauders, intending to pay Sinister with it, but he tells him things aren't that serious yet. He says Creed's adamantium was removed, off-planet, and gives him a booster shot of healing factor. He hands Remy an injection that will detect frauds, and in exchange asks that Creed be left with him. Remy doesn't want him to be able to clone him; instead, he offers him a piece of Courier, to study his cellular control. Courier can grow it back, but he's getting shorter over the years. Exiting, Remy gives Creed to his worshippers, blows up Sinister's portal, and has Courier kill the cells he left behind by remote-control. - Trade Availability: None. - Fun Facts: None.

In World War I, Baron von Strucker faces the gem and upon touching it sees his future self becoming leader of Hydra. He watches with awe and fails to grab the Princess before it fades away. With Candra’s help Strucker again tries to reach the jewel in World War II, but Jean Luc LeBeau and Nick Fury’s Howling Commandos get there faster. Candra offers Jean Luc to end the Guild pact in exchange for the gem, but he knows that this would give Hitler the means to end the war, and so he sends it into the timestream again. In the present, Gambit, Sekmet Conoway and Strucker’s children Fenris fight over the stone, but it disappears again before anyone gets hold of it. In the years 2028 Gambit and Rogue, now married, finally get hold of the Princess. In 2084, the Witness sends the Momentary Princess into the past, knowing that many people, including himself, will try to get it. The Courier takes Quiet Bill to the New Son’s citadel. Constrictor has stolen an adamantium stomach, which was supposed to go into Judge Buechler. Remy shows up, fighting both of them. He needs adamantium to save Creed: although his healing factor is restored, he has become dependent on adamantium to survive. They fight on top of a train to Jersey, then all jump off a bridge. Fontanelle investigates Sinister's dreams. A century ago in America, he buys a paper with the headline “Black Womb Killer Acquitted!“ : someone is selling fetuses. Constrictor makes it to Donato's place; as a young man he worked for the mobster and fell in love with his daughter, whom he is now holding hostage for the stomach. His own has been destroyed by ground glass, a slow assassination attempt while he was in prison. Turns out the judge bumped Donato down on the organ donor list; Remy makes a deal: he charges the ground glass, dissipating it, Constrictor donates part of his adamantium coils to Creed, and the jerk Buechler gets the stomach. - Trade Availability: None. - Fun Facts: This issue features the first time we see interaction between Gambit and Constrictor.

They even have a hundred year old photo to prove his presence in the past. Gambit asks Sekmeht Conoway for help and she suggests that he uses Dr. Doom’s time machine. Along with the Courier and the Mengo Brothers they invade Latveria, fight their way past many Doombots and reach the platform. Gambit takes Courier with him and they arrive in London 1891. They track down the Thieves Guild and learn that because of an earlier failure, Candra has taken Jean-Luc LeBeau and Belize Marceaux (both still young boys) hostage and has not renewed the guild pact. Candra needs knowledge on Dr. Essex (Mr. Sinister) to prepare herself against Apocalypse, and Gambit offers to provide it, yet the Guild have learned Essex’s whereabouts too and prefer to work off Candra’s debt themselves. The Thieves' Guild have rented a room on the Lower East Side; Belize gets a slap from his father for questioning the ancient rituals. He has learned that Essex is operating under the alias of Dr. Milbury, obstetrician. Remy already knows that, and he convinces Courier to morph into a female form and make an appointment with him. Reviewing Courier’s blood sample, Sinister discovers his patient is a mutant and, wanting to study further, injects “her“ with narcotics. Passing out, Courier melts; he touches Sinister’s face, revealing he uses make-up to cover his pale face, and evidently could not yet shapeshift. Fontanelle investigates Bella Donna's dreams and learns that she hates and loves Remy. At age 13, she eavesdropped on her father and Gris Gris and heard about Remy’s importance for the future of the Guilds. Remy has asked the local thieves and learns that Müeller, an accused child-killer, knows about Milbury. He dappers himself up and goes to seduce her, in her 5th Avenue mansion. In the entry hall, he is attacked by the Guild. Jacques demands his son back, and Jean Luc, with regrets, smashes Remy on the head with a flower pot. Remy wakes at Müeller's feet; she had many miscarriages, was tried and acquitted of causing them, but her husband ran off with their last child. She tells Remy where to find her doctor, Milbury. The Guild has gone there first, down secret subway tunnels, which is currently under construction. They find a repository of deformed skeletons and are mobbed by early Morlocks. Remy follows, to Sinister's low-tech lab. Sinister has Courier as a liquid in a jar and offers to make a deal with Remy. - Trade Availability: None. - Fun Facts: None.

Gambit, Vol. 3 #14 - Tomorrow's Starts Today

He gives them some texts about the Old Kingdom, then Candra shows up. Remy is with Sinister, who released the Guild two weeks ago and offers to restore Courier; now stuck in female form. All this in exchange for a piece of Courier. Remy wants “Jaqueline“ to repeat the trick (iss. #9) of killing the cells he gave to Sinister, but somehow he can’t do it. Fontanelle investigates Rogue's dreams and warns her that Remy needs her help in the past. She needs to go to Jean Luc. Angel, who has decided to be a humanitarian, makes a deal with the New Son and is told he must kill Remy. Candra traps Ozymandias, and the Guild translates Old Kingdom texts so she can fold space using magic. They are interrupted by Sinister, who uses Apocalypse's transport to do the same, and Remy is with him, cards flying. Sinister has Courier's morphing abilities now and attacks Candra, handing her over to her fellow X-Ternals, who are angry she risked waking Apocalypse. Back in New York, Sinister removes the Guild's memories of the Old Kingdom texts and locks them away in Remy's subconscious. He notices previous work done to the base of his cerebellum, which looks like his own. Remy refuses to explain. Courier summarizes: they have saved the Guild and put the kibosh on Candra, but they gave advanced abilities to Sinister and froze Courier as a woman. Plus, they don't know how to get back to the future. - Trade Availability: None. - Fun Facts: In this issue The Courier is changed back to his "original form" by Sinister after an attack that melted him. Sinsiter messed up and made Jacob a woman believing that was Courier's natural form since that was the way he presented himself in Sinister's doctor's office. She goes to Anubar, who gives her a device he uses to track his daughter Sekmeht, and she finds herself in the mountains of Latveria. Seems Sekmeht found the Folding City, built by Dr. Doom had to study holes in space, which disappeared. Rogue hears her own voice from within, and investigates: it’s a maze of space-time fragments. She finds Sekmeht and the Mengos, who have been on the run (since issue #12) from the self-Exalted One, former rent-a-cop of the facility, who controls the spatial anomalies. Turns out, he's the Mengos' father. At his citadel, the New Son shows Fontanelle many variant realities, in all of which Remy dies with a spear in his belly. The Assassins' Guild has a contract on Remy, and Bella Donna prepares. When Mengo pere hears Doom is out of power, he decides to expand his anomaly to all Latveria. Rogue attacks, breaking the gauntlets that he uses to control the anomaly. Various useless gates to reality open; Rogue realizes Mengo, Sr.'s, armor is the real gate, and flies them all through him. Mengo, Sr., reaches through the rift to catch Rogue's leg, but to his surprise his own son attacks, cutting off his forearm. With only one gauntlet left, he‘s stranded inside the city. But they still don't know where Remy is. Mr. Sinister is monitoring mutant power levels. Sabra operates at 67%, X-Man at 85%. The New Son dismisses Fontanelle as she has gathered all required information, he then sends the Courier, who always reverts back to female form, to recruit some assasins. Fontanelle investigates Courier's dreams; she tells him to choose between Remy and the New Son.Then she goes into Remy's mind and has him replay his fight with Bullseye. During the questioning Constrictor wakes and is knocked out again. Although he hired the assorted villains for the New Son, Courier calls Archangel for help, while Batroc and Zaran attack Remy again. Denti is wounded; Remy blows up the Thieves' Guild escape boat and the villains with it. Crossbones is on deck; he drops his guns when Remy charges them, then Denti pulls his gun and gets away with Remy. Crossbones crosses paths with Batroc and Zaran; they have an old feud. Deadpool pulls a gun on the Thieves' Guild, but they convince him they're just trying to help a relative. Constrictor again wakes and is again knocked out. Remy tries to catch his breath. Denti notes that he seems stronger when using his enhanced powers. Just then, Fireballs and X-Cutioner attack again. Denti considers, then arrests Fireballs. He's glad he's no longer X-Cutioner. The new one chases down Remy, but the Assassins' Guild rescues him, so Bella Donna can kill him herself. Fifolet disrupts X-Cutioner's systems, and he explodes. Denti, investigating the crash site, is still figuring out how to be a good guy again. Fontanelle invades Bullseye's dream of taking over the Kingpin's organization and learns that the contract on Remy expires at dawn. Claiming that his goal was to create a new perfect world, Gambit agreed to help him and rescued Courier from the Evolutionary’s base and aquired various objects to complete the task, yet Planet Doom shifting into this universe pulled New Son’s plans to a stop. Also Fontanelle reveals that the job took a personal interest when she found out about Amanda Mueller’s involvement with Mr. Sinister in the past, for Mueller is actually her mother. Conclusion is that they need to find out more about the New Son’s motives, his origin and about the Old Kingdom prophecies of the Guilds, therefore they need to find out about Gambit’s own past. Turns out Amanda Mueller lived at least until World War II and headed a genetics research program by that name. Mystique, herself impersonating a staffer, realizes Courier’s an imposter, when he, thinking himself unobserved, stands up to get a drink. Bella Donna is mad that the casket was empty, since it was supposed to tell the unified Guilds how to resurrect the Old Kingdom. Tante Mattie says they still have to try, and Remy is the prophesied savior. A fireball explodes in Siberia. Lapin insults Gris Gris, who then starts choking him, so Remy kinetically charges off his dreadlocks. Fontanelle calls Remy, worried because Courier didn't return. Theoren hacks into the Pentagon computers to create a fake meeting, and Remy as Robert Lord walks in, finds Courier, and gets cornered by Mystique. He uses his new power to burn her hand, making her drop her gun, and she realizes she is not up on recent events. He wants to just walk away, but she pulls knives, and he charges her body, forcing her to yield before she dissolves into a blue puddle. Remy summons Theoren and Gris Gris, accusing them of erasing his hospital records and destroying the contents of the casket. Rax shoots a bolt in his shoulder and is about to kill him, when he is interrupted by Domina, who reveals that the Neo have been watching, and then the Guild, who did have a vote: Remy won 7 to 6. Domina returns Remy to them, saying the Neo were once allies with the Old Kingdom. She claims she would have won, but Rax and Remy exchange glances: they both know Remy was superior. He explains that he once used to be a prison guard from the planet Culth, which uses the X-Cutioner armor as a guard uniform, but during a prison riot he ran away in cowardice and was sentenced to prison. When Maximum Security was implemented, he was sent to Earth. Heth’sa makes a deal with the guild. If they can help him break into an Oklahoma silo and get him to the X-Cutioner armor, he will give them a c.d. containing information on Ego collected by the High Evolutionary. Gambit, Emil, Bella Donna, Mercy and Heth’sa break into the facility and get the c.d. Heth’sa uses the transport system of the suit to go back in time to kill him instead of letting himself run away. Gambit follows Heth’sa, knowing that if the man does not live then they would never retrieve the information on Ego. Gambit prevents Heth’sa from killing his past self and, instead, helps the man decide to make amends by fighting now. Gambit returns to the future and makes plans to get the c.d. to Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four. Remy realizes he's supposed to see this and fear, so he doesn't lose control of his powers, too. He uses his kinetic abilities to keep Bill frozen in time, so the portal stays open. New Sun wants to talk but expects they'll fight after Remy has heard his story. He was born in Alpha-1, a lab like Black Womb, and trained as a weapon. As a teenager he incinerated the lab and wandered. He joined the X-Men, but had to leave when he killed Phoenix. Jean Luc took him in and showed him the prophecies of the Diable Blanc, who was to be a vessel of the King of the Old Kingdom, which preceded Atlantis and Lemuria. No one thought that “bringing the burning light of heaven to earth“ was literal, but when he channeled those energies, a chain reaction of cascading energy waves engulfed the world, making it a new sun and killing everyone except the New Sun. He tried to remake time, the ultimate use of his kinetic power, but failed, instead breaking through to other universes (including the Age of Apocalypse), finding many in ruins, till he got to ours. To save it, he plans to kill Remy, and he starts blasting. Fontanelle has been monitoring Quiet Bill's dreams and wakes him, while Courier reaches him physically. Remy fights kinetic energy wave with kinetic energy wave; something clicks in his head, and his power goes full-force, blasting New Sun all the way to Iraq. They rush each other, colliding a mile above earth, then land in Turkey at the site of the Old Kingdom. Remy knew how powerful he could be and had Sinister lobotomize him (#16, 23). Less powerful but more cunning, he pumps power into the New Sun, overloading him and knocking himself unconscious. He sees Fontanelle in a dream, then wakes to see a statue of the King fall and impale New Sun with a spear. Everything evaporates, and Courier and Bill pull Remy through the portal to safety in the nick of time. Huey is dead, and Bill is distraught. Remy's extra powers have burnt out, so he's back to where he started. Courier asks if Remy will miss being so powerful, but he declines. She asks what he wants, and suddendly he kisses him/her, saying he wants to keep everyone on their toes. - Trade Availability: None. - Fun Facts: New Sun is killed in another dimension by Gambit pushing all of his energy into him until New Sun explodes. Mastif is the Thieves Guild's fence, and when Remy can't return the jewelry, he nearly has him thrown back to his pets, but his little daughter Minnie is upset, so instead he says Remy owes him a favor. Remy hangs from the ceiling as waiters rob a charity ball in New Orleans. He tosses cards and knocks them all out, to general applause; naturally he doesn't mention he happened to be there to steal a painting. Hercule calls in the favor, then breaks down sobbing. He takes him to Mastif, who has seen better times. He hugs Remy and also sobs, then shows him his beautiful, comatose daughter. She had become a reporter and argued with her father till she left him and married Abrian DuCreste. He stole her heart, literally, and there's a little door in her empty chest. It's voodoo, and Mastif wants Remy to steal her heart back. DuCreste is at Mardi Gras with his arm around another girl. Remy trails him, but then a huge man attacks him. Remy charges his orthodontia, exploding till he gets an address, where he breaks in and finds stacks of hearts in jars, wired to a huge one in a central tank. DuCreste holds his latest girl hostage, then throws her to Remy and smacks him around. He says those hearts were willingly given to him, and he is strong and fast. He breaks off some timber and is about to smash Remy with it; Remy throws a card at the tank. DuCreste disintegrates, and all the hearts disappear, returned to their original owners. ThiRemy stays with Minnie a few days, refusing to answer the phone, as the series ends. - Trade Availability: None. - Fun Facts: This was the last issue of this series. The X-Men search the base in Antarctica for clues, since Gambit must have picked up the green energy there. They find a video log : As energy Mary traveled around the world and even tried to take over Magneto, but he was able to capture the energy form instead and put it into a test tube to store later. Later Magneto posed as Eric the Red and held Gambit’s trial to cause some trouble among the X-Men, so that he could prepare his worl war without them interfering. When he left he forgot about the green energy, which weas then discovered by Gambit, whom the X-Men left behind in the frozen wastelands. Back in the United States, Mary wants Gambit to die, so that their energies came create a new bio-energetic life-form. The X-men arricve with devices to separate them and kill Mary, but as she helped him survive in Antarctica Gambit can’t allow this and blows up the device in midprocess. Afterwards the green energy woman has vanished and Gambit is back to normal. In the New Son’s Crystal Cathedral, Courier blames for having deliberatly fought in the public to alert the X-Men, but Warren on the other hand is sure that Courier too helped Gambit by contacting the Thieves Guild, who then helped him defeat the many villains during the Assasination Game. Quiet Bill is still opening doorways to alternate realities, and in very few Gambit actually survived the coming events. Bill is no longer sure of the New Son‘s actions and transports the X-Men and Gambit into the Cathedral. They never would have found it themselves as it is hidden outside of time and space. Turns out that Warren only played along with the New Son to expose his plans. In the end New Son attacks Remy, Warren and the Courier, but Remy is able to counteract the energies, because the New Son is nobody else than Remy himself; only from an alternate reality, older and more experienced. Before any questions can be answered, the Cathedral collapses. The New Son is taken through a portal, the others get back to earth in Siberia. The streets are crowded with revellers and Remy says hi to a few familiar faces, including Ronnie and Ida. He then meets another old friend, Dan Down, in a bar. Dan can listen to the cards, and they are telling him something bad is coming. He warns Remy to be cautious. Remy heads to his apartment, thinking that the old man’s just crazy. Later, he heads into town and joins the revellers on the street. He says hi to more familiar faces, including Madame Camille, before heading over to Club Orleans. He beats up three guys who are hassling a young woman, and is seen doing this by the club’s owner, Orlean Cooper. Cooper is in discussions with an expert thief, Jack Jessup. Upon seeing that Remy LeBeau is back in town, Orlean informs Jessup that his services are no longer required. Jessup insists he’s the best man for the job, but Cooper replies that, as of now, he isn’t. He does, however, give Jessup some cash for his troubles, and tells him to avail himself of his establishment’s hospitality. Cooper then meets with Remy, an old acquaintance of his. He asks what he’s doing in town, and Remy replies that he has a date. A woman calls his name and Remy kisses her, pretending that she really is his date. The woman, Lili Penrose, has a job for him. She wants him to steal a deck of cards. Remy like the idea, and the money that comes with the job. Jessup, meanwhile, tries to take an expensive whiskey from the barman, but is refused it. He puts several items of Cooper’s that he stole on the bar, in return for the bottle, and then shoves a knife through the barman’s hand, telling him to warn Cooper that he’s going to take the job anyway (the same job as Lili has offered Gambit). She is scamming some guy for a portion of his recent ill-gotten gains and he is forced to pay up. Gambit enters as the guy leaves, and pulls back the curtain behind Camille. It reveals her assistant, Genevieve, surrounded by computer monitors. It seems she is hacking into all kinds of systems and finding information with which to blackmail people. Remy wants information about the house where Lili Penrose asked him to steal a deck of cards from. Camille recognizes the Penrose Estate as belonging to Morgan Penrose, Lili’s uncle. This is news to Remy. Morgan is, amongst other things, an amateur occultist. She will provide Remy with the information, but asks for a favor in return. Remy heads to the banks of the Mississippi and steals a disk from Stark International, at great risk to himself, which contains a universal firewall bypass. He gives the disk to Camille and he gets the information he requested. Remy then visits Dan Downs at the Glam Slam bar. He asks Dan about the place, and Dan informs Remy that he’s been doing his own investigations. He knows someone else is trying to get the cards, and also that something bad is definitely brewing. He takes Remy to a casino, as Jack Jessup scopes the Penrose place out. Jack calls Orlean Cooper and informs him that he’ll steal the cards and will be in touch afterwards. Orlean informs a demon, who is actually in his office, that everything is going according to plan. At the casino, Dan proves that the cards do indeed appear to give him information but, as he and Remy fold together in order to dig up a clue, the demon appears above them, then it disappears without a word. It was just an illusion. As they leave the casino, Dan informs Remy that the deck of cards he has to steal is a deck of tarot cards with supernatural powers of apocalyptic proportions. They continue towards the Penrose residence, and Remy asks Dan to place the cans in the middle of the road. They continue walking, and Remy asks Dan to remain outside and keep a look out. To create a diversion, he then bowls the ball, now filled with kinetic energy, straight at the gas cans to create a diversion. Inside the Penrose house, Morgan Penrose has guests that include New Orleans’ supernatural elite. Morgan explains that the deck of tarot cards he wishes them to see, possibly the original deck, was crafted by monks from the Order of Frater Inficio more than seven hundred years ago. They were affected by their time, caring for the mentally afflicted people with ‘poisoned’ minds, and the deck was created as a result of their studying these people’s minds, particularly their mind’s primal recesses. It contained four more cards than a normal deck, and these cards were excised from subsequent decks to ensure human safety, and sanity. The deck is extremely powerful. Remy’s explosion gets the exterior guards out of the way, and he enters the house, taking out the security system with ease. He doesn’t count on Lili Penrose being there, and she’s had a bit to drink. Dan calls Remy on the radio to explain that Orlean Cooper has joined the party, but Remy has more important matters in hand, namely getting it on with Lili. Soon, their dalliance is over and Remy gets back to work. He takes out the two guards in the room containing the deck, and uses his agility to make his way through a laser beam field. He then picks the lock, and removes the deck. Morgan Penrose arrives with his guests, finding the guards unconscious, and his most prized possession gone. Remy returns to Dan Downs, but finds him groggy, and leaning against a tree. Before he can think about what’s happened, he is electrocuted by Jack Jessup, who takes the deck from him. It could be deadly in the wrong hands, and he wants Remy LeBeau to pay for this. Orlean explains that he’s a legitimate businessman and cannot help. His assistant, Alphonse, however, can do whatever he likes. Alphonse walks with Morgan, and informs him that he’s put the word out to his fellow assassins and, by now, Remy should be either dead, or fighting for his life. Elsewhere, Remy has dealt with the potential assassins, and is enjoying a game of Go Fish with Dan Downs. He remembers that he should really be tracking down who’s behind all this, and tries to leave. Dan asks him to stay, and play one more hand. As they continue their game, Dan sees in his cards that Jack Jessup is the one behind their recent mugging. Remy goes after Jack, and disguising himself as a hot dog vendor, easily recovers the stolen tarot deck. As he and Dan wander through the streets of New Orleans, Alphonse appears, alongside a fellow mutant tough guy. Alphonse splits the box holding the tarot deck in two, and the cards fly out. Dan covers Remy’s eyes to avoid him seeing them - they could make him go blind. Dan explains that they’re indestructible, so Remy charges three cards and hurls them at Alphonse. Unfortunately, they don’t retain the charge, and they make no impression on the large assassin, who tells Remy that his power only works on inorganic objects. He should have done his homework. Alphonse and his friend pummel Remy mercilessly, as Dan Downs flees in order to get help. He returns to Remy’s apartment, and spots a deck of cards on the table. He knows he shouldn’t use them, but has little choice. In the cards, he sees a phone number, and calls it. Before he can speak to the person on the other end, Jack Jessup attacks and strangles Dan. When Alphonse leaves to deliver the Inficio Aquilus to Orlean Cooper, Wolverine arrives and slices Stone up. Alphonse delivers the tarot cards, much to Jack Jessup’s annoyance, before being informed that his friend had been killed. Being an avid X-watcher, Alphonse realizes that Wolverine may be involved. This is bad. At Camille’s, Remy thanks both Camille and Wolverine, but is soon saddened when he hears about the death of Dan Downs. He swears revenge and wants Wolverine’s assistance. Using a tried and tested tactic, Remy and Logan tear through the New Orleans underworld, disguising themselves as their fellow X-Men. When the vague stories of these raids reach Alphonse, he believes that the entire team is on his trail, and he doesn’t want that. As Cooper prepares for a ceremony that evening, Alphonse takes the tarot cards and delivers them to Gambit. He asks for forgiveness, but receives a knockout blow in response. Before she does so, however, she asks what exactly happened to Orlean Cooper and Jack Jessup. Remy obliges her. Remy had visited Madame Camille, and watched Orlean Cooper, who they thought was a mutant, in conversation with three demons on television via a hidden camera. Cooper transformed into a demon himself, and threatened them with the power of the Inficio Aquilus - a powerful set of ancient tarot cards. When they turned out not to be the regular cards, one of the demons scorched Cooper, who wanted revenge against the person he thought had switched them; Jack Jessup. Camille tried to ensure that Remy didn’t let Jessup face Cooper, and so Remy headed off to warn him. After a brief fight, and after his warning had been delivered, Remy still left the pitiful Jessup to his fate. Lili figures she can work out the rest of the story. Remy mentions that he thought her uncle Morgan was the magician in the family. Lili explains he was, until she killed him after learning as much as she needed to. With Remy’s death, and the Inficio Aquilus that Remy has kindly brought with him, she will be formidable beyond belief. As Remy tries to offer her a final piece of advice about dealing with one’s enemies, Lili plunges a dagger into his chest. Strangely, it bends. She rips open his shirt, thinking he may be wearing Kevlar, but instead finds he has one of the tarot cards stuck to his chest. Her eyes immediately burn out, and her skin becomes blotchy and pink. Remy explains that he had Wolverine test out the cards and, though he lost his eyes, he’d get them back. He then informs her that he and the X-Men will destroy the cards, or at least render them useless. She tries to attack him, but he knocks her unconscious, and hears the police sirens outside. As he tries to leave the Penrose house, several officers aim their weapons at him and inform him that he’s going with them. He is fed up with her and life in the swamps. He departs, swearing to make something of himself. In the present, Gambit is questioned by detectives about the recent goings on at the Penrose house, and other murders in New Orleans. Unfortunately, they know he’s not guilty of any of the murders, and have to release him. Detective Noreen Tanaka offers to give him a ride to the St. Louis cemetery, but she wishes to take a detour first. She drives to the Louisiana Unified Savings building, where Emery Arcenaux is carrying out a bank robbery. Emery tells the frightened customers that, if everyone does as he asks, no one will get hurt. A security guard takes a shot at him, but his force field protects him. He renders the guard unconscious, and asks if anyone else is feeling suicidal. Gambit says that’ll be him. He throws three charged cards at Emery’s force fields, but it holds with ease. He blasts at Remy, but his agility keeps him clear of danger. Changing tack, Remy persuades Emery that all he’s going to do is to hurt the innocent people around them. He’s a young kid who could maybe use the helping hand of the X-Men. Emery eventually sees sense, and powers down, only to be shot by Detective Tanaka, who breaks down immediately afterwards. After she’s given her side of the story, she gives Remy a lift the rest of the way. It turns out she intended killing Emery in order to further her career - and tells Remy that he’ll have a hard job proving it. She rips his police file in two and throws it away, doing him a favor for helping her at the bank. He thinks she’s crazy. She leaves him at the cemetery where Dan Downs is being buried. He apologizes to his old friend for getting him involved in all this, and says goodbye. His friend has heard of Gambit, but his friend has someone else in mind. Downtown, Brother Voodoo is fending off a horde of the undead, whilst Remy sits opposite Ginny in a restaurant. Her feelings for him are clear, but he informs her that, unfortunately, there’s only one girl for him. She questions him about kissing the female cop, and also his dalliance with Lili Penrose, but he assures her that the cop kissed him, and Lili was a mistake. Before the conversation can get trickier, a zombie enters the restaurant and attacks a customer. Gambit grabs his coat and heads off to see what’s going down. Outside, he finds Brother Voodoo taking on all-comers. He joins the fray, and introductions are made. As they tear their way through countless zombies, Ginny watches them on her monitors. She is upset, and grabs a CD with Remy’s exploits with Lili Penrose on them. This doesn’t look good for Remy. Meanwhile, as they stand off against superior numbers, Gambit suddenly notices that his old friend, Dan Downs, is amongst their number. He freezes, and Brother Voodoo tries to convince Remy that it isn’t his friend; it’s simply a malignant spirit occupying his shell. They’ll be doing them all a favor if they put their tortured souls to rest. Suddenly, they are felled by an explosion. During one attack, Remy protects an old lady from debris. Little does he know that it’s Emery’s aunt. They need time to figure out who’s responsible for casting the spell that created these zombies, so Gambit destroys some buildings, which collapse on Emery in order to buy them some time. They meet Detective Tanaka, who shows them a photograph of Emery’s aunt, Antoinelle. Remy recognizes her as the old lady he saved earlier. As Tanaka wants them to do the dirty work for her, she informs them that Antoinelle lives in a shack in the Bayou. The two heroes head there in a stolen speedboat, but once again they are faced with a small army of zombies. Brother Voodoo uses his skills to have nature fight their battle for them. Alligators, snakes and plants all help them out, but they are no match for Emery, who catches up with them. Emery grabs Remy, who realizes that Antoinelle is probably doing all this so somebody can take her own pain away. He sees Detective Tanaka about to shoot Antoinelle, and destroys her pistol with a charged card. Remy’s saved Antoinelle a second time. Antoinelle hugs her son and says she’s sorry for everything. Tanaka still wants to bring her in, but Remy tells her she’ll look foolish in court trying to prove anything. Unable to refuse in time, he takes the kids with him on a mission to retrieve a disc, which Ginny has sent to Rogue. The disc contains footage of his dalliance with Lili Penrose. They head to the roof to gain entry to Rogue’s room but, due to recent rebuilding work, the entrance is no longer there. Storm is disturbed, sunbathing topless, but decides to leave the boys to their mischief. Remy decides to show the boys how the X-Men train and, during his exercises, explains that Ginny had been forced by her mother to inform him about the disc being sent to Rogue. Later, they head through the mansion, and Cyclops grabs Remy, informing him of something in Manhattan which needs attending. Remy wants to stick around the mansion, but he isn’t given much of a choice in the matter. In Manhattan, he and his fellow X-Men battle some giant stone monsters, successfully, and return to the mansion. Emma tells Remy that Rogue has already returned, and her thoughts are driving her mad. As Remy considers the awkward consequences of Rogue seeing the footage, the three kids appear holding the disc. They explain that they managed to break in to Rogue’s room themselves. He is impressed, and offers them some test results as a means of saying thanks. They think it’s strange that, unlike the other teachers, he helps them bend the rules. Remy replies that he doesn’t mind if they do, so long as they learn something in the process. Rogue appears and is all smiles. The kids had replaced the disc with flowers and chocolates, which Remy gets the credit for. She is told to take a personal day by the captain, and returns home. She opens her door to a living room filled with photographs of Remy LeBeau. Meanwhile, Remy is out to steal a gun used in the civil war, which has on it a key to stolen gold. When he arrives at the museum, he finds Bandit has gotten there before him. The two men fight, before Belladonna arrives and breaks it up. She explains that Bandit is her boyfriend. They quickly escape from the museum and head to a café, where he and Belladonna chat, after Remy removes the firing pin key from the gun before Bandit can discover its true value. They chat amiably, and Belladonna has hopes that he and Bandit can become friends. Elsewhere, Detective Tanaka volunteers herself and her partner for a babysitting job, watching over a truck filled with seized A.I.M. weaponry. She murders her partner, before heading to the warehouse district. There, Bandit is trying to rally the guild members to his cause. He wants Gambit dead, so he can continue his own good work leading the guilds. They are quite unwilling to go after Remy, as they’ve failed before. He wants Gambit dead. Gambit, meanwhile, goes undercover to learn a few things about Bandit, before having dinner with Belladonna. They get on well, until Remy informs her that Bandit is using her to climb to the top of the guilds, and doing all kinds of other sneaky stuff behind her back. She doesn’t want to hear this, and slaps him hard before throwing him out. He leaves, and later drops in on Bandit’s headquarters, where he kicks his butt. During the fight, Bandit admits that what Bella doesn’t know won’t hurt her. Unfortunately for him, Remy left his file at Bella’s place and she turns up to smack him hard upside the head. With the three of them surrounded by heavily armed assassins and thieves, Bandit orders them to shoot the other two. Belladonna orders them not to shoot anybody. Detective Tanaka then arrives, holding a nuclear device which she threatens to set off if Gambit doesn’t stand down. Remy is quicker than she figured, and he uses his charged cards to disable the device and take her down hard. Seeing little option but to fight their way out, Gambit, Belladonna and Bandit, who has little choice but to assist them, tear their way through the guild members with success. Later, Remy delivers all of them to a police station along with Tanaka before joining Belladonna at Madame Camille’s. He asks Camille to look after Bella, before managing to move Ginny’s schoolgirl crush away from him, and onto Brother Voodoo.
