Comic Summary: The X-Men are face to face with the Sinister Six. Logan tries talking to Jean, but she’s not quite herself. She attacks, but before things turn real juicy, Sinister breaks up the action to explain his motives to Magneto. Sinister describes his early days searching for Mutant Alpha, who it turns out was Jean Grey. The blackmail and the attacks were to serve as a distraction for Magneto and his X-Men so he could finish his work. Sinister monologues a bit more before the action restarts. The Sinister Six are eventually defeated after Logan manages to break Jean free of Sinister’s influence. The X-Men are not without losses of their own, though, as both Quicksilver and Gambit are dead. Sinister, barely alive, is kept hovering above the ground by Magneto and Jean. Magneto gives Logan and Kirika the honors of killing him. With the whole ordeal over Kirika asks Psylocke to unlock her memories. It turns out that Logan really is her father and Mariko her mother. Several days later, Magneto tells the world the truth and turns himself in to the authorities. While in jail Magneto gets a visit from Jean who tells him she will take over as headmaster of the X-Men. Later that day, Kirika says her goodbyes to Logan as she and Silver Samurai are heading to New Japan. She asks him to go, but he says his place is with Jean. Some more X-Men gather in the hallway to discuss their future. Jean tells them that although things are safe now, they won’t be for long and they’ll just have to wait. For now, though, they should begin to dream again.

Comic Summary: Because of the ever growing hatred towards mutants, Magneto has isolated himself from the world and built a school for mutants atop Wundagore Mountain. His X-Men consists of his children, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, along with Storm, Colossus, Iceman and Jean Grey. Today, one more mutant joins the team: Weapon X, who might be the most dangerous of them all, because of his adamantium claws and his berserker rages. Additionally, Mystique brings Rogue to the school. The young girl was targeted by Apocalypse and after being attacked by Polaris she retained half her magnetic might. Meanwhile, Apocalypse's giant Celestial ship appears over New York City, and his five Horsemen Candra, Gideon, Death, War and Sabretooth attack Cape Citadel, the command center for America's nuclear missiles. When Magneto learns about this, he and the X-Men depart in their jet. Wanda and Rogue stay behind to take care of the school and the many children should anything happen to Magneto. Arriving at Cape Citadel, the X-men find the Horsemen at odds with each other. Candra and Gideon program all missiles to launch, but Sabretooth doesn't want to commit mass murder. Against the X-Men, however, they put aside their differences and work together. In direct battle, the X-Men manage to defeat the Horsemen, while Magneto stops Gideon from finishing the countdown by causing the entire complex to explode. Apocalypse himself appears out of his ship and tells the X-Men they have impressed him, though they still need to die. As the ship departs, the weapons charge to blast the entire area, but a magnetic pulse of Magneto disables them. Magneto is proud of his students, but when they return to Wundagore they find that in their absence it was attacked by Apocalypse's son Nemesis. Rogue did her best and the many children are safe, but the Scarlet Witch was killed. Right before she died in Rogue's arms, she made her promise to always be there for Magneto as a friend.

Comic Summary: Having freed Jean Grey from Sinister’s clutches, Weapon X angrily leaves the X-Men with Jean. Seeing two of the team’s mainstays leave the team shatters Magneto. In the meantime, Holocaust orders his servant Wolverine to make Magneto suffer even more, by killing the one closest to him before his eyes. Wolverine spies on the overconfident X-Men, led by the rather distraught Magneto, while they save some humans from a group of bandits. He notices - as Magneto suffers an injury - that quite possibly his second-in-command Rogue and his friend Gambit are closer to the X-Men’s leader than his son Quicksilver. Changing some of the bandits, giving them powers, he sets out to find the team’s headquarters. Back in their base, Magneto cannot find it in himself to relax. Gambit in the meantime wants a commitment from Rogue, who is feeling more and more attracted to Magneto. The triangle enters an explosive phase as Magneto finds a way for Rogue to be touched, but only by him. Spying on the two, Gambit finally realizes their feelings for each other, and feeling betrayed angrily lashes out at them. At that moment, the base is attacked. The X-Men are diverted by Wolverine’s henchmen, while Wolverine himself attacks Magneto. When Rogue has to make a split-decision between saving Magneto and Gambit, she decides to save Magneto. Meanwhile the other X-Men have realized the extent of the threat and attack Wolverine - to no avail. He offers Rogue to spare Magneto’s life, if she lets herself be killed, but at that moment Gambit sneaks a charged-up rock into his belt – with explosive results. Rogue tries to apologize to Gambit, but he brushes her off and leaves the X-Men, broken-hearted.

Comic Summary: Shadowcat, Gambit and Wolverine are on a mission to retrieve information that was stolen from the X-Men some time back. They head to a military installation in the desert and enter it after taking out several guards. To locate what they want, they split up. Each of them encounters several holographic scenarios, which have them question the truth about some of the X-Men’s history. Gambit sees an alien called Rogue grab the woman he knows to be Rogue and take on her appearance. He then sees Psylocke aboard a shuttle, utilizing the Phoenix Force. He then sees a young Neal Sharra as a mutant-hating youth in Calcutta. Finally, he sees Emma Frost looking after Generation X, but in collusion with Sebastian Shaw and the Hellfire Club. Wolverine’s first scenario shows Beast testing the Legacy Virus on himself in order to find a cure. He next sees Mystique kidnapping a baby that turns out to be a young Kurt Wagner. He moves on to find Mister Sinister creating a clone of Jean Grey, which he intends to place in a cocoon in Jamaica Bay. He moves on to see Kitty Pryde as a baby, being taken in by a member of the Neo. Finally, he witnesses X-Force in Genosha in confrontation with Magneto. Meanwhile, Shadowcat first witnesses Colossus taking part in some nasty business with the Acolytes in outer space. She then watches Gambit making a deal with the Hand on behalf of the Thieves Guild. She then sees a possible link between Onslaught and an old enemy of Professor Xavier’s, Lucifer. After seeing a young Ororo Munroe about to be used as a puppet by the Shadow King, she sees Wolverine in his Weapon X tank, only with Apocalypse as the one who first put adamantium into his body. Eventually, Kitty manages to retrieve the data she came for and, after a run in with several hard light holograms of themselves, the trio depart before the feds arrive. They realize that the scenarios were probably just an attempt by Bastion to mess with their minds, but it’s made them wonder.

Comic Summary: Aliyah Bishop, daughter of Deathbird and the X-Man Bishop, lives on the Starjammer, alone with her mentor, a non-corporeal Carol Danvers. Accidentally, Aliyah observes a clandestine meeting between Kree rebels and inter-dimensional slavers taking place on a Shi’ar world. She is discovered and a fight breaks out, which becomes even more desperate, as a Skrull spy and Brood warriors join the fray, all of them seemingly after the object the slavers brought for the Kree – a strange cocoon. As Aliyah is about to be killed by the Warskrull, she is saved by a woman, who emerges from the cocoon: a reborn Jean Grey – Phoenix. Before they flee from the Brood, Jean has Aliyah also grab one of the slavers’ Hounds – T.J. Wagner aka Nocturne. To get them all out in time, Aliyah makes a fatal decision by having the ship go to warp speed within the atmosphere. The ensuing destabilization also reaches the star, which goes nova. They are saved by Phoenix, who absorbs the star’s energy and, while she’s all powered up, also teleports Nightcrawler on board, figuring he’s the only one who has a chance of helping Nocturne. Back on Earth, the people to whom Jean was important sense Phoenix’s re-emergence with mixed feelings.

Comic Summary: On Earth, the X-Men, former and present, react to the psychic impression Phoenix left with them. Cyclops and Emma wonder what it means for them, as Scott, with the help of the Stepford Cuckoos, contacts all people whom Jean reached and asks them for help. Jean’s daughter from an alternate future – Rachel – turns him down, apparently angry at him and telling him he can call her and Kitty Pryde when he has some concrete means of reaching Jean and helping her. Scott next contacts Cable, who is busy fighting terrorists in the Hindu Kush with his partner, Irene Merriwether. Cable is reluctant to help at first, but finally decides to return to the States, much to Irene’s secret glee. Next, he contacts Wolverine, who lives with Ororo in Africa. Wolverine doesn’t tell him that Ororo, who is lying in an iron lung, will die soon. He is still holding on to hope, unlike Ororo. Afterwards, Emma and Scott are contacted by Vargas, a member or possibly head of the X.S.E., who informs him that some of his members are on Sinister’s trails. Said members –the now happily married Rogue and Gambit – break into one of Sinister’s labs to find what appears to be a dead Domina and Sinister. Rogue remains suspicious, though – correctly, as Sinister faked his death. Elsewhere, the real Sinister takes cruel revenge on one of the extra-dimensional slaver, who broke their deal with him, as they were supposed to bring Phoenix to him first instead of the Kree. Back in space on the Starjammer, Nightcrawler and Phoenix catch up, before discussing the situation with Aliyah and Carol Danvers. What with the Shi’ar stargate system having collapsed, several races are vying for the slavers’ teleportation portals – including the Brood. The Shi’Ar have to be warned. Back on the Shi’ar homeworld, Lilandra’s chancellor – Khan – informs her of the destruction of the Shi’ar world (where Aliyah found Phoenix) and shows her telemetry, proving the return of the Phoenix. Lilandra orders him to destroy the Phoenix and any standing beside “it.” Khan orders one of his servants to make sure the X-Men are destroyed.

On the border of Shi’ar space, the heroes inside the Starjammer learn that Cassandra Nova has also taken control of Aliyah, as the girl leads them into a Brood trap. After managing to get Xavier and Cassandra to admit both their faults together, those left form the Tree of Life. Twenty years later, Kitty Pryde is president of the United States and tells her story to Manoli Wetherell. Her greatest triumph comes when her long-time foe Alice Tremaine (now speaker of the House of Representatives) admits that Kitty has shown her that she was wrong about mutants and asks to be allowed to join the ceremony at the Xavier Institute. Kitty holds a speech in front of the remaining X-Men and their children, explaining that, in order for their society to evolve, it was necessary for the X-Men to end.

On Utopia, several of the young mutants are following media reports about the chaos spreading across the world, before Wolverine orders them to their rooms, and young mutant Oya reveals to Wolverine that she has made peace with what she is. Cyclops and the White Queen monitor the re-appearance of various Sentinel designs around the world, while the Stepford Cuckoos co-ordinate various X-Men and their allies around the world. At the Hellfire Club, the new twelve year old Black King, Kade Kilgore, hints at how he has orchestrated this anti-mutant hysteria and the re-appearance of the Sentinels, while several of his young friends meet with an alien race as they acquire a Badoon brain slug. The exchange of slug and cash does not go well - and ends with the aliens being killed by the youngsters. Rogue and Shadowcat take down the Sentinel in the far off country and rescue its leader, while other pairings of mutants battle Sentinels in other parts of the world. Wolverine wants to go out into the field, but Cyclops wants him to remain on Utopia, which is when Kid Omega arrives. Wolverine and Cyclops argue about how to deal with Kid Omega, when Commander Rogers contacts them, informing Cyclops that the Avengers are doing what they can to assist, Cyclops tells him that there has been no sign of Kid Omega. Wolverine then takes off, and Cyclops gives Kid Omega a stern warning. The White Queen informs Cyclops that the Mayor has moved the opening of the Mutant History Museum to tonight, and wants some of the X-Men to attend. The event is televised, and Wolverine watches it from a pub somewhere, while the White Queen, Magneto, Colossus, Iceman, Sub-Mariner and several of the young mutants, including Oya, attend. Comic Summary: Wolverine and Cyclops continue to battle each other, before they are separated by the blast of the super Sentinel who looms over Utopia. Wolverine is ready to press the detonator which will blow up Utopia, when the Sentinel grabs him. The Sentinel also grabs Cyclops, before both men break free from it, and continue to fight each other, neither willing to give up, both thinking they know what is right for the X-Men students. Suddenly, Hope, the Lights, Anole and several other young mutants arrive, and battle the Sentinel. Cyclops joins them, before Wolverine discards the detonator and joins them also. With everyone working together, the Sentinel is eventually taken down. Kade Kilgore and his friends watch the battle from a hill at San Francisco, while the X-Men prepare to return home, only no one can reach a contact at Utopia. The White Queen has been freed from the Badoon Brain Slug and finds Cyclops on the ravaged shore of Utopia, where the X-Men students are feeling pleased with their victory. Later, Wolverine and Oya watch the sun rise, and Oya reveals that she is glad she killed the Hellfire Club soldiers, as she can accept she is a monster, and now knows what it means to be an X-Man. Wolverine finds Cyclops and after another lengthy discussion, neither is willing to back down from their position. Wolverine announces that he is leaving Utopia and that whoever wants to come with him is welcome. Cyclops thinks Wolverine is making a huge mistake. Wolverine assures him that he will not try to stop what Cyclops is doing on Utopia, while Cyclops tells Wolverine that they will still be here on Utopia protecting a world that hates and fears them. Cyclops sends some of his team to investigate the Hellfire Club, only they find them all dead. At some sort of beach resort, Kade Kilgore and his young friends celebrate their victory, while Wolverine and some of his supporters, including Oya, arrive at their new home - the ruins of the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters.

Comic Summary: Returning from Boston, Piotr and Marrow are asked to return to the mansion immediately. Kitty, Kurt and Rogue are also given the same order and, as Professor Xavier speaks with two members of X-Force, Storm receives a similar call. Once they are all back at the mansion, they discover Wolverine lying dead in the medilab. They follow Charles to the command center, where he immediately becomes involved in a shouting match with Cyclops. Scott blames him for losing it; telling him that there are two factions in the room, one of which will blindly follow him and his dream, and the other which can think for themselves. As Kurt attempts to mediate, Charles accuses Jean Grey of controlling Scott’s mind. He attacks her mentally, and Cyclops unleashes an optic blast at his old mentor. Kitty manages to phase the Professor, but the blast hits Storm hard. Jean then attacks Charles in response and, before long, the two factions are separated as the walls come down between them. Cable smashes through the barricade and attacks Jean - killing Marrow, who comes to her defense. He then takes down Rogue also. Nate, meanwhile, blasts Colossus and then vaporizes Nightcrawler, before Piotr kills Nate with a desperate final attempt at stopping him. Kitty is horrified, as is Gambit, and they hold their respective loved ones as they breathe their final breaths. They then see images of those they think are responsible - Onslaught in Kitty’s case, and Dark Phoenix in Remy’s. As they fight back, everything suddenly reverts to how it was before all this fighting began. Charles apologizes to the X-Men, but explains that, in order to discover who had infiltrated the team, he had to put them through hell recently. Everyone present has passed his tests and appear to be who they say they are. Charles takes them to the medilab where Hank explains that the Wolverine on the bed is an impostor. He injects him with a liquid that Remy brought back with him and Wolverine turns into a Skrull. With the mystery over, Storm asks the obvious question. If this isn’t Logan, where is he? Witnessing this, Polaris is unsure of her place with Magneto. Nearby, the Beast and Iceman secretly reach the Genoshan Coast so Hank can study the Legacy Virus. In America, Mystique sneaks into the NRO offices to cover up some of her aliases that have recently been compromised. Elsewhere in a hideout, the Blob gathers some villains to pull a heist. Phoenix and X-Man meet in Alaska to discuss what happened to Cyclops and what Nate should do with his future. Back at the mansion, the High Evolutionary contacts the X-Men in New York to tell them that he has created a device to reverse the mutant genome, making them human. The Evolutionary triggers this device and mutants around the world revert to humans. As a result, the authorities capture Mystique while the Blob and his partners have their plan nipped in the bud. On Genosha, Magneto realizes that his enemies will soon strike now that he has a new handicap. Beast, analyzing what has happened, realizes that this is the work of the Evolutionary, who may have a secret beneficiary helping him.

The two go outside into the streets to celebrate the Carnival when the Beast, who set up an elaborate stunt to sweep Jean off her feet, comes and scoops the woman up. After Beast’s little show, the two talk and discover that both have been summoned to Venice by Gambit. A group of men called the Shockwave Riders, members of the Neo, attack the X-Men. Storm comes in and saves Jean, but the Riders use their powers to send Cable’s techno-organic virus out of control. As Jean protects him, another Rider uses his powers to steal some memories of Cyclops from Jean. Gambit arrives, as the Neo are defeated. The Neo escape, except for one, who wills himself to death. Comic Summary: In Russia, Storm kidnaps an old ally named Simyon Borisovitch Kurasov from his home and enlists him in helping her free the other X-Men, who have been captured. Storm tells Simyon her story, how the X-Men came to Russia to help Gambit pay off an old debt to Colonel Alexei Mikhailovitch Vazhin. Their goal was to sneak into a club named “the Slash!” and free Major Debra Levin, who went missing while investigating. The X-Men snuck in, but were ambushed by Manacle, Bludgeon, Cudgel, and Revenant, who were sent by the club owner, Ransome Sole. Sole had his slave, Sketch, encase the four captured X-Men in shells but Storm escaped. Simyon agrees to help. He takes a S.H.I.E.L.D. like model decoy, programmed to mimic Storm, and pretends to hand the real Storm to Sole. The real Storm sneaks in and frees Levin and attacks Bludgeon and Cudgel. Meanwhile, Sole is trying to sell the captured X-Men to his guests: some Shockwave Riders and the slaver known as Tullamore Voge. Sketch transforms the fake Storm into a machine gun to help out the X-Men. She frees the X-Men and they take down Ransome Sole, Big Casino and the other mutant guards. Some Shockwave Riders escape with Sole and his associates as Revenant teleports away. In the end, the X-Men free Levin, free a slave, and capture Voge, but realize more is going on that meets the eye and that their trip to Moscow will be prolonged.

Comic Summary: Dr. Strange visits Xavier’s mansion in his astral form and discovers the Juggernaut, trapped within the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak. Onslaught had imprisoned him there. One of Tar’s neon spiders appears to recover the ruby, but Gomurr also appears and stops it. He tells Dr. Strange that he’s going in to get Cain, and Strange can guard the ruby until he’s finished his task. He enters the gem, and finds the Juggernaut being psychologically tortured. He is made to think his life has been a dream, and he is actually in a wheelchair in place of his hated stepbrother, Charles Xavier. Gomurr steps in to stop the illusion, which is revealed to have been caused by Spite, the sister of D’Spayre. Gomurr takes Cain on a journey of his youth, to teach him lessons he should already have learned. He sees his father taking to Charles more than he took to himself, and then the crucial moment when his father died. Cain blamed Charles for everything. Gomurr explains that his anger is misdirected, and his hatred will ultimately consume him. Cain is finally persuaded that he should forget all about Xavier, but before he can leave this dimension, Spite steps in to turn him, by offering him undreamt of power. Despite Gomurr’s efforts, Cain believes her, and vanishes in a puff of smoke. She takes him to Cyttorak’s throne room, where she wakes the age-old deity, and informs him that his vessel has arrived. Cain realizes he’s been played. Spite only wants him to be Cyttorak’s earthly vessel so he can return to Earth, and he promised her he would take her with him. She has been imprisoned there by her brother for far too long. Cain is furious and throws Spite at the giant Cyttorak statue, which has come to life. It swallows her and proceeds to pound on Cain, who no longer has his Juggernaut powers. As they fight, Tar and Gomurr appear and Tar releases a neon scorpion, which imbues Cain with the power he lost. He then shatters Cyttorak into a thousand pieces. The arcane energy that is released proceeds to destroy the dimension, and so Tar and Gomurr take refuge in the Crimson Dawn. Cain, meanwhile, appears in Xavier’s mansion, where he delivers a monologue to himself about how, as the Juggernaut, he’s never going to be stopped again.

Comic Summary: Chris Bradley’s home has been torched by mutant-haters and he angrily goes roaming the streets. His parents turn to Iceman for help, as for the brief time Chris was at Xavier’s mansion, he and Chris seemed really close. Chris however searches out Maverick, whom he first met when He and his parents were attacked while trying to get into the only clinic that treats Legacy infected patients. Iceman finds Maverick and Chris in a hotel room, but they are also discovered by some anti-mutant militia, who throw a grenade in the room. In the confusion, Maverick and Chris give Iceman the slip, who then enlists Wolverine’s help in tracking them down. Wolverine tells Bobby that this was the right decision, as he never would have been able to find Maverick alone. He also tells him about how years ago, Maverick killed his own brother just to save his teammates Creed and Logan, to show what kind of person Maverick is. All the while, Chris fills in Maverick about his experiences with the X-Men, how they openly welcomed him and taught him control of his powers, how they offered support when he was diagnosed with the Legacy Virus and how they forgot all about him when they were too busy battling Onslaught and other menaces. Maverick is rather unimpressed and tells Chris to stop blaming others for his own problems. Right then they are again attacked by the anti-mutant group, and hopelessly outnumbered, but the two X-Men arrive in time and defeat them with ease. Afterwards Iceman offers once more to help Chris, but he refuses, having been let down by Bobby and the X-Men before. Bobby even considers to force Chris to accept his help, but Maverick points his weapon at Iceman and tells him to let go. He then realizes that he can offer the boy what he really needs – friendship. Logan understands that Maverick is telling the truth, as the X-Men are always kept busy by one menace or the other, and tells Bobby that this is the right thing to do. While Logan gets back to the X-Men and Iceman returns home to take care of his injured father, Maverick uses his contacts to relocate Chris’s family and get them new identities.

Suddenly, Logan appears, in Creed’s own body, and they begin to fight, but Creed gives him the slip and heads to find his prize, the neutralizer. Everyone is surprised to find it in a laboratory, almost finished, and Warren destroys it without even wanting to consider all the options. Creed and Logan continue their fight but Warren breaks them apart, only to somehow act as a conductor for their minds to revert to their original bodies. With the neutralizer destroyed, Mrs. Hoo reports to Sebastian Shaw that Creed has failed in his mission. Nevertheless, Shaw is optimistic, knowing that this incident might sow a little discord amongst the outer circles, so their inner circle will continue to tighten.

Comic Summary: After teasing the beautiful Kitty Pryde with a dead rat, Marrow lets slip that she has seen some terrorists in the subways underneath New York City. The X-Men question her before deciding they can’t sit back and do nothing, especially after Logan theorizes that Flag-Smasher and Ultimatum are probably to blame. Storm splits the X-Men into teams, one team will head for the tracks whilst the other goes and checks the underground. While Storm and Rogue fly to New York carrying Gambit and Colossus, Marrow, Kitty, Wolverine and Nightcrawler head into the city on an old garbage sweeper train, using Marrow’s stolen radios to communicate with each other. Marrow has a chip on her shoulder about humans and taunts Kitty about her beauty and being able to fit in with ‘the fleshbags’. Kitty hates this accusation and tries arguing her point in return. Reaching the place where Marrow saw the terrorists, Marrow is paired with Kurt before Kitty asks if she can go with her instead, which more than surprises her after their earlier confrontation. They check one track while Kurt and Logan check the other, where they run into some Ultimatum, troops and engage in a short fight. They escape the battle but Logan has wounds that need time to recover from. Colossus and Rogue meanwhile split up from the others in their team and followed a suspicious group of men aboard a train. Indeed they too are part of Ultimatum, but the two X-Men easily win the fight, being bulletproof and all. Kitty and Marrow finally arrive on the train where the bomb they are searching for is located but are taken captive by some Ultimatum goons. Luckily, they are saved by Storm and Gambit who help them rout their captors. The others arrive shortly after and have to decide what to do about the bomb which is set to blow up beneath the United Nations. Marrow realizes something is wrong with the situation and heads off, followed by Shadowcat. They discover that Flag-Smasher, Ultimatum’s leader has another bomb beneath Wall Street, the financial center of New York, the other simply being a decoy and so Marrow decides to attack him, helped by Kitty who smashes him in the face. Kitty is ready to sacrifice her life and phase the bomb underground but Marrow isn’t going to allow that and knocks her unconscious. She then stabs Flag-Smasher and tells him that he can defuse the bomb or die with it. She takes Kitty away who wakes up soon after, angry at Marrow’s behavior. The bomb doesn’t blow up though, proving Marrow’s ideas about humans to be correct, even if her methods are a little unorthodox.

Remy meanwhile returns to the mansion and almost crashes his bike, only for Colossus to save both him, and his bike. Charles reprimands Remy for not having trained for so long but Remy isn't in the mood and following a heated exchange, Charles decides to take a look at his other charges in his astral form. Using Cerebro to amplify his mental powers, he visits Generation X in Massachusetts, X-Force in San Francisco and Cable in New York, thinking about the dark days that lay ahead of them. Meanwhile in the mansion, Kitty Pryde is shocked by the discovery that her father is currently staying in Hammer Bay, Genosha. She is then alerted by Rogue about how the Professor appears to be pushing a little hard of late. Kitty decides to speak to Charles in person. Their conversation appears to reinforce Rogue's views that something is wrong with Charles and Kitty later joins Nightcrawler and Colossus to discuss what they might do about it. Kurt tells them to meet him in the Danger Room in ten minutes before he himself goes for a chat with the Professor. Kurt appears to finally get through to Charles, reminding him that Charles once told him never to look back to see what lies ahead of you and he goes to the Danger Room as Charles enters the control booth. The team then take on a Sentinel robot there, and show the Professor exactly what they can do with assured confidence and teamwork. Charles smiles as he realizes what is important, the mansion is more than a school and the X-Men are more than just students.

Wolverine discovers that she had been involved in a plane crash and there are others in need of help, including her father. The two X-Men head out into the woods to search for the plane and discover it, with Tamika’s father, Inazo, and his business partner, Tokitoshi, still inside, both needing treatment. Unfortunately, the Silver Samurai also wants Inazo on espionage charges and he’s brought backup with him in the shape of some armed soldiers. Cecelia manages to distract them in order to make her escape with the two Japanese men and Wolverine catches up with her after taking a few more out of the fight. As they head for safety, an attack helicopter fires at them and Wolverine is forced to put it out of commission. Taking the fight to the Samurai, everyone is surprised when Tokitoshi shoots the Samurai, though not fatally. He is the real spy and downed the plane on purpose, after overhearing the pilot talking to the Samurai by radio. Cecelia shows real guts in removing the weapon from him and ensures that everyone receives medical treatment who needs it. The Samurai himself is impressed by her actions. Inazo thanks them for their help in catching the real criminal but uses the experience to tell the X-Men that he has learned that family is more important to him than his work. Comic Summary: First Story: After discovering their once thought-lost teammate, Wolverine, is alive but one of Apocalypse’s Horsemen, several of the X-Men – Professor Charles Xavier, Nightcrawler, Jean Grey, Rogue, and Banshee – all recall past dealings with Logan in their past, some privately, others publicly. All of them share the same goal though: save Wolverine and bring him back into the X-Men. Even though many of them share stories, Jubilee takes it extremely hard and, after some help from Marrow, writes him a heart-felt letter that he can read once he returns. Second Story: In Canada, Logan learns about some unscrupulous hunters who don’t hunt for food, but purely for sport and trophies. Logan is enraged by this and, the next day, systematically takes the men down a notch without resorting to any bloodshed. Once he sends the men away, scared out of their minds, Logan holds his own private ceremony for the animals killed that day and laments their passing.

Comic Summary: Wolverine is once again in Tokyo, wandering the city streets, when he comes across a beautiful, young woman, being attacked by three men. She manages to take out two of them but the third, an elderly man called Azuma, bests her and, if not for the timely intervention of Wolverine, would have killed her. Approaching police force them to flee the scene but only after Wolverine receives a wound to the gut for his deeds. The woman, Renge, takes him to her house and explains that Azuma is after her sword, which is called Mikage. It was the finest sword ever crafted and her father knew Azuma wanted it. One day, Azuma murdered her father and Renge fled with the sword, which her father entrusted to her. Azuma has been chasing her ever since. While Renge sleeps, Wolverine takes the sword and heads into the night to see just what all the fuss is about. Surely enough, he is attacked by Azuma’s minions and, during their fight, he encounters the spirits of the people the sword has killed, who try to possess him. He manages to retain his own will but knows a weaker man may not be able to resist their pull. He returns to Renge’s house to find her gone, but discovers a note from Azuma, telling him to deliver the sword, or she dies. Wolverine meets him on a beach. He has Renge held captive and fights Wolverine, who gives him the sword. As they fight, the spirits show themselves again but, this time, Azuma is unable to combat them and has a heart attack when one of the spirits thrusts a sword into his chest. Renge’s guards flee, as Wolverine takes the sword and cuts Renge’s binds. Later, she gives him Mikage and he performs a ritual before dropping it into a vat of molten steel, freeing the spirits and ending their torment.

Comic Summary: Wolverine and the astonishing X-Men are tracking AoA Nightcrawler. They soon find his hideaway and discover that he is working with Dark Beast. In San Francisco the two meet and McCoy gives Kurt a special pair of goggles they will use to enter the Dreaming Celestial. After they successfully teleport inside, McCoy operates a machine that creates a portal to the AoA universe. However, before it stabilizes, the machine explodes, just before the X-Men attack. Kurt escapes their clutches and teleports himself and McCoy through the portal. Arriving on New Apocalypse, they find the portal won’t close, which worries McCoy. Kurt is shocked when he learns the X-Men in his world are dead and he teleports away to investigate. He soon runs into Prophet and takes him back to McCoy, whom they find eing arrested by the X-terminators. However, McCoy seems more concerned that the portal won’t close. At that moment, the X-Men come through and grab Kurt. They tell Jean Grey they are taking him back to their world and start to argue, but are interrupted by the arrival of Dazzler and her X-treme X-Men. They too seem very worried about the portal and the fact they saw something inside it when they travelled through. Sage and Xavier work on closing it but it’s too late, as three huge monsters exit the portal. Xavier tries to show them they mean no harm but it’s no use, as one of the monsters vaporizes Xavier and absorbs the energy off him. Dazzler objects to leaving, but Prophet tells her sacrificing the AoA reality is the only way. Nightcrawler begins to teleport everyone back, first taking Harper Simmons and then Sage. However, when he goes to take Iceman, the Dark Beast breaks free of his shackles and goes with them. He is quickly knocked out by Gambit on the other side, but not before jamming a nugget of the Apocalypse seed within Iceman to keep it safe. As Nightcrawler next takes Howlett and Cyclops, Dazzler begs Prophet to come with her but he refuses, saying a captain goes down with the ship. However, the decision is made for him when Jean Grey knocks him out and instructs Dazzler to take him back to her world. Jean goes off to continue her fight as Nightcrawler teleports Dazzler and Prophet away. In the 616 reality, Nightcrawler realizes that if he grabs onto the black swirls in the portal, he can teleport the opening back in on itself. Sage confirms he could close the portal and, before anyone can stop him, he goes. He manages to close it at the cost of his own life. Afterwards, Howlett and Cyclops decide to travel to Greece to collect Hercules from the underworld. Wolverine offers Dazzler a job at the school but she declines, as she needs a bit of time to herself. A few weeks later, Harper meets Prophet on a beach, where they have a drink to remember their old team. Elsewhere, Dazzler creates a holographic image to make sure everyone remembers her fallen teammates.
