CHARACTER INFORMATION
-
One of the very first mutants, Apocalypse is both thousands of years old and a monstrous tyrant that has been a longtime foe of the X-Men. Apocalypse believes that only the strongest (whether mutant or superhuman) should survive. His body is a mix of organics and powerful celestial technology. He has been killed and revived several times over, each time to try and capture or create the strongest being to out survive the rest, by any means necessary. He has recruited many people throughout time, normally changing them physically or personally in some way to make their work more efficient.
HISTORY BREAKDOWN
-
Surprisingly enough Gambit never came face to face with Apocalypse until later in the game. There were many previous battles before their meeting that Gambit was a part of, but Apocalypse mainly stayed out of the way and let his henchmen do the actual fighting. Apocalypse was also a large fear of New Sun (Son) and he would regularly show Gambit visions and video of the tyrant, but they never came face to face until later.
-
When they first personally met it was during Apocalypse's current attempt to play God. He had developed a virus to kill off the majority of standard humanity in an attempt to level the playing field now that only a handful of mutants remained on the planet. He offered the antidote to the virus to all the mutants that would join him. Gambit, hearing some truth in Apocalypse's words and worrying that it could be a trick, decided to take the ultimate chance and agreed to join Apocalypse.
-
-
As part of the new partnership, Gambit agreed to become Apocalypse's new Horseman, Death. Once the procedures began Remy informed Apocalypse that he was only there to be close to him, threatening to be Apocalypse's downfall if the ancient mutant betrayed the X-Men. Apocalypse saw it as a false threat, believing that the real Gambit would be lost in the change.
-
-
- The X-Men break into Apocalypse's ship where they are introduced to the new Death. After the shock of the situation, a huge fight ensues. When the new Death comes face to face with his former friends he shows signs of recognizing the X-Men and the feelings that go with them. Afterward, Death tells Apocalypse that he does feel his former self within him and believes that instead of destroying Gambit , the procedure split them into two separate identities. Apocalypse is angered by this development and threatens to place Death back into the machine to fix the problem, but Death returns the threat, coming to a stalemate.
-
-
Deciding to agree to disagree, Apocalypse and Death proceed with a new plan, forced by the destruction of the antidote to Apocalypse's virus during the battle. Apocalypse addresses the United Nations, telling them they must cull 90% of the human race within a week or he will kill off the entire human race, leaving only mutants.
