CHARACTER INFORMATION
-
The Brood are a race of insectoid, parasitic, extraterrestrial beings. The Brood possess wings, fanged teeth and a stinging tail. They have a hive mentality and mindlessly follow a queen. To reproduce, they must infect other races with their eggs. Despite their resemblance to insects, the Brood have endoskeletons as well as exoskeletons. Also unlike insects, they have fanged jaws instead of mandibles. Their skulls are triangular and flat, with a birthmark (such as the battle axe which is most common in broodlings but are different for each Brood) between their large eyes. Their two front legs are actually long tentacles they can use to manipulate objects. The Brood has infested the planet Earth several times to lay their eggs inside humans.

HISTORY BREAKDOWN
-
The Brood had attacked the Earth and heroes of the Marvel Universe several times before Gambit was introduced to them, but the first time was personal for him. The Brood infiltrated the New Orleans Assassins Guild. Bella Donna showed up at the X-Men's Mansion to recruit her husband for help. Teaming up with Ghost Rider, Gambit and the X-Men located the Brood Queen's nest destroyed it, with consequences. Bella Donna was mortally wounded in the fight against the Brood.

Following this, another Brood Queen sought to make hosts of both Ghost Rider and Gambit, and sent out drones disguised as policemen to find them. Teaming up, Ghost Rider, Gambit, and Wolverine located the Brood Queen's nest in New York City and destroyed it.

Trying to invade Earth yet again, the Brood intercepted NASA's Mar's Lander and used it to infiltrate the space station Simulacra. Receiving a distress call, the X-Men teamed up with the Fantastic Four to investigate, bringing them into conflict with the Brood. In an attempt to stop the Brood entering Earth's orbit they pass through a cosmic storm, causing Gambit and the other X-Men to develop the powers of the Fantastic Four and lose their minds. The situation escalated with the arrival of a Brood invasion fleet in Earth's orbit. The X-Men were able to gain back their minds and original powers, allowing them to tid the Earth of the Brood.
