UNCANNY X-MEN #273
-
In their first notable fight they fought against one another in the Danger Room with Jubilee looking on in the tower. Gambit was trying to prove himself. Wolverine was trying to size up the newest recruit and fight off the jealousy he felt over Storm's new friend. Their setting was an old air plane junk yard, similar to where Gambit and Storm first hooked up as partners in crime. The fight started pretty evenly until Gambit played his hand. Wolverine was distracted by a false Lady Deathstrike whom was thrown into the session. While Wolverine was busy fighting his old flame, Gambit made his move. Gambit pinned Wolverine to the floor with the famous words "Bang, you dead". The quote was carried on for a long time between the two, commonly ending many fights between them.
